Export Promotion Council of precious stones and jewelery (Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council, GJEPC) India August 31 held a meeting with senior government officials and heads of departments to discuss the creation of "Jewelry Park" in Mumbai (Mumbai Jewellery Park, MJP). Chairman GJEPC Pravinshankar Pandya (Praveenshankar Pandya) said that the Indian Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Maharashtra called for representatives of the jewelry industry to implement the project. He added that its implementation will be the first of its kind for the gold jewelry industry, and if successful, such projects will be established in other Indian states.
The Chief Minister of Industry of India Apurva Chandra (Apurva Chandra) assured the trade that each of the stakeholders in the government will provide full support to the project of MJP. He stressed that the MJP will not only help the creators of gold jewelry, but also will reduce the volume of migration, the protection of traditional cultural skills as well as encourage the next generation of young people engaged in the jewelry trade. In addition, it will increase the self-esteem of masters and give them a modern working world-class place.
At the end of the meeting, the participants visited the BDB territory for a better understanding of the model proposed in the framework of MJP.
