The Alliance for Responsible Mining (Alliance for Responsible Mining, ARM) and the Council for Responsible Jewelry practice (Responsible Jewellery Council, RJC) renewed their Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen their cooperation in promoting responsible supply chains of jewels and to promote their strengthening.
ARM and RJC share the objectives related to the promotion of responsible supply chains of precious metals, and will continue to work together to their standards and guarantee models are mutually reinforcing. As part of its cooperation ARM and RJC aims to improve the social, environmental and labor practices, the proper management of the production and recovery of ecosystems in the course of mining operations carried out by artisanal and small mining companies; strengthening of links between enterprises, leading a large-scale mining, and Artel and small mining companies; improving access to the precious metals markets for products coming from responsible artisanal miners and small mining companies.
ARM and RJC see great opportunities for a broader inclusion of the sector, which employs Artel and small mining companies in the global supply chain of responsibility and will work together with many stakeholders to make it happen.
ARM and RJC also respond to the requirement for harmonization on the part of industry by matching certain aspects of their safety nets. ARM and RJC will allow a joint audit by the standards and Fairmined RJC Chain-of-Custody for those companies that are involved in both certification schemes in order to reduce audit burden. Such measures help to reduce the barriers to a more responsible supply chains and facilitate interaction with the artisanal and small companies, the leading mining.

India's Kiran Gems, the world's largest diamond producer, has received "Gold Award Niryat Shree" Federation of Indian Export Organizations (Federation of Indian Export Organizations, FIEO ) in the category of major jewelry companies.
The event took place at a gala evening of May 4, 2016 in Delhi, India.
Babubhay S. Lakhani (Babubhai S Lakhani), Director Kiran Gems, accepted the award from the hands of Pranab Mukherjee (Pranab Mukherjee), the incumbent President of India. Last year, Kiran received the same award in the same category.
On the occasion of receiving the award Lakhani said: "This is a joyful and proud moment for us."
Mavji Patel (Mavji Patel), managing director of Kiran, said: "The award is the culmination of the work of all our employees I thank all customers, suppliers and workers for their support and look forward to their continued trust.".
Kiran this year received 4 awards from the Council to promote the export of precious stones and jewelery (Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council, GJEPC) for excellent export and business performance.
