"ALROSA", the world's largest diamond mining, exploring the possibility of creating its own production of synthetic stones. This was told "Izvestia" the vice-president of "Alrosa" Rinat Gizatulin. Analysts doubt that domestic production of synthetic stones will be interesting to the company as an independent business: diamond production gives the company a high profitability and "exchanged" with artificial stones on an industrial scale "ALROSA" makes no sense.
According to the vice-president of "ALROSA", within the next year the company plans to formulate their next steps on the market of artificial stones and offer options for the approval of its shareholders. While the project is only being discussed, so the amount of possible investment and production is difficult to call.
"Before you engage in the production of synthetic gemstones, we need to understand himself in the prospects of this business and explain to shareholders the need to work in this direction", - said Gizatulin.
The company has not yet decided if it will develop a new direction on their own or in a joint venture with one of the existing Russian producers. Now in Russia there are at least three producers of synthetic stones - in St. Petersburg, Moscow and Novosibirsk.
According Rinat Gizatulina, to date, "Alrosa" has already created a think tank that monitors and analyzes the situation in this market. The company monitors the state of affairs in the market of synthetic stones to be able to respond to possible threats to the diamond industry, which may arise with the development of technology.
"For us the main thing - a clear distinction between diamonds and synthetics. Any of our stone, which was created by nature millions of years ago, is unique. With this experience observing the synthetics is only 10 years, and we do not know what will happen with these stones in the future ", - says Gizatulin.
However, analysts doubt that "ALROSA" will be interesting to our own production of synthetic stones as an independent business.
