Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) has already sold 270,000 carats of diamonds since February this year, said a spokesman of the government.
Minister of Mines of Zimbabwe Chidakva Walter (Walter Chidhakwa) said that the results ZCDC activity confirmed the correctness of the government's decision on consolidation of mining companies.
Earlier this year, seven diamond companies from the region Marange (Marange) were forced to complete its work, since, according to the authorities, their licenses have expired.
In addition, the company was accused of resisting plans for consolidation.
Chidakva added that the government has set an ambitious goal to reach production of 1 million carats per month.
"We have previously mined 15 million carats per year, which means that in a month produced more than half a million carats." - continues to minister.
"In addition, once the country was mined 12 million carats per year, or about 1 million carats per month. If you produce 1 million carats per month at a price of $ 70-80 per carat diamond monthly sales could reach $ 70-80 million" , - he added.
"If you multiply that by 10 months, we will get $ 700 million, and another two months - about $ 800 million", - quotes its calculations Chidakva.
It was expected that ZCDC will bring Zimbabwe's $ 800 million budget annually.
