ALROSA President Sergey Ivanov and chairman of India's Export Promotion Council of precious stones and jewelery (Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council, GJEPC) Pravinshankar Pandya (Praveenshankar Pandya) agreed on closer cooperation in order to address a number of challenges facing the diamond industry.
The head of ALROSA and GJEPC recently met at the headquarters of Alrosa in Moscow in the presence of Vice-President Yuri Okoemova and Andrei Polyakov diamond company.
Ivanov and Pandya agreed to cooperate more closely on scientific, commercial and regulatory initiatives to create differentiation between natural and synthetic diamonds; work to expand the supply of rough diamonds to small producers in India; and explore the possibility of establishing effective mechanisms to determine the price of rough diamonds.
In addition, the two sides also agreed to discuss cooperation in the viability of diamond mining in India and create a "road map" for the expansion of employment in Russia through the development of the local jewelery industry.
ALROSA president also assured the GJEPC, the company is fully committed to the promotion of the overall program, adopted by the Association of Diamond Manufacturers (Diamond Producers Association, DPA).
Specific aspects of the overall cooperation is likely to be formalized at a meeting between the two organizations, which is expected to take place in early June in the framework of the 21 th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
